History: Wiki link

Three key adjectives: responsible, short-tempered, hypocritical

Influential Events:

Six same children

Growing up in a household with five other children who all share the same face will have an undeniable effect on any kid. Choromatsu and his brothers shared everything together: their face, their clothes, their bed, their food... so the sextuplets had to learn how to coexist with one another and get along. This carries on into their adult lives, as they still sleep in the same bed and things like sharing snacks come to them like second nature. (Not money though. Never share money.) Growing up together as sextuplets sharing everything also made the brothers very close: they were never without one another and though this lead to PLENTY of fights (and still does ALL THE TIME), as observed by another character in -san, they never knew what loneliness was and are confused by the idea of it.

It also meant that their personalities were quite similar when they were young. As everyone around them treated them as one whole entity rather than six individuals they acted more like one entity as well. Like six hideous copy paste gremlins. Though even then, little bits of their individual personalities did shine through, especially Choromatsu's. While he and Osomatsu were the most similar, leading them to be partners in crime and get into all sorts of mischief together, Choromatsu was also more cowardly and short tempered than Osomatsu. Even at a young age he often saw himself as better than his brothers, and given the opportunity would go mad with power, seen when he briefly became the leader when Osomatsu wasn't around and started doing things like whipping his brothers to assert dominance.

But then high school

(Note that this is based on the new movie that came out in March and hasn't been subtitled yet, so I'm going off of summaries from people in fandom who went to see it in Japan and the trailers.)

All of this changed though when the sextuplets became teenagers. While their eerie identicalness was initially seen as neat and novel, it quickly earned them ostracization from their classmates. While the sextuplets had always received some degree of ire their entire lives due to being mischief makers, this was different even for them. Being seen as freaks led to them trying to sort out their own identities and become different people, setting them down the paths that led them to who they are today.

Choromatsu during this time tried to take on the persona of the ideal student. He started wearing glasses, tried sucking up to teachers, and just overall acted the part of a teacher's pet. Only this was more obnoxious than anything, as he tried way too hard to be upright, was far too stiff, and got SUPER SHIT GRADES in school because he only looked like a good student and did none of the things you ACTUALLY needed to do to be a good student. This is also right when he started becoming a horny piece of shit as instead of ever doing any school work he was just looking at dirty magazines hidden in his textbooks. (He’s a teenage boy leave him alone.)

This isn’t too far off from the way Choromatsu ended up as an adult and is a logical half step between the trouble making little shit to the uptight and naggy little shit who boasts about being responsible that he grows up to be. It’s likely he assumed this personality because of a desire to, again, seem superior in some way.

NEET life

As an adult, Choromatsu became even more responsible and prided himself as the “reasonable one”. As their mother began to let the six of them get away with more and continue living comfortably at home, Choromatsu stepped up to be more of the nagging, worrywart kind of presence in her place.

The six of them being NEETs (No Employment, Education or Training, basically people who still live at home with their parents and don’t work or go to school) didn’t sit well with Choromatsu and just left him frustrated. He was constantly harping on the others to get jobs and trying to find one himself. Because it’s not just for himself that he wants them to become independent; the image of a NEET is such a negative one that he wants all six of them to succeed and rise above it. Their closeness makes it hard for one to succeed on their own, as inevitably they’ll either get pulled back down into the shit by the others or sabotage themselves to keep being together.

And aside from that the other problem is... well, Choromatsu hasn’t really changed THAT much. He is still ultimately more concerned with image than anything, and relishes more in throwing his weight around as the “upright, good son” than actually doing anything to achieve his goals. He’s all talk. And this time his brothers are old enough to call him out on it.

That time he almost got married, got a job and briefly moved out

Getting called out of his behaviour though started to get to him as Choromatsu became more and more self conscious of himself. He tried to double down on his act, and even entered a state of denial about him being better than his brothers. But this ended up just being a mask for increasing anxiety and a sense of worthlessness.

Things finally came to a head when... okay stick with me here for a second but: they got swallowed up by another character and met a tribe of people living inside of him. I’m not joking. I hate this show. ANYWAY Choromatsu fell in love with a girl there and almost married her. When his younger brothers interrupted the ceremony to bring the elder brothers back, Choromatsu had a meltdown where he admitted to doing nothing, being scum, and that he still actually wanted to become independent but knew it wasn’t actually possible for him after all. His bride hearing this, forced him to leave the tribe and go back to the outside world, because as much as she loves him too she wanted him to have a second chance at becoming what he thought was “a proper person”.

Yeah I know that paragraph was a lot. I’m sorry. Maybe.

Anyway this lit a fire under his ass and the next episode Choromatsu got a job and moved out into a dorm sponsored by his new job. This however caused a lot of drama at home, as Osomatsu wasn’t happy about Choromatsu leaving. The two no longer got along as well as they used to as children, but he was still upset and refused to congratulate Choromatsu at his going away party or see him off as he left. This left Choromatsu upset and uncertain, as well as creating an atmosphere where the other four brothers forced themselves to move out when they weren’t prepared or ready to, no longer comfortable at home. Needless to say this was all a bit of a disaster for all six of them and in the end, Choromatsu quit his job and came back home (as did the others). Obviously this was return the “whacky comedy show” back to its status quo but for what it’s worth, Choromatsu legitimately didn’t seem happy with the way things were and the next few years at home he seemed a lot more relaxed and laidback about finding independence, not forcing himself or his brothers into roles they weren’t ready for yet.

And then shit got real

This lasted up about until another major event happened in their life a few years later: their father collapsed at work. While their dad ended up being okay this gave the brothers a wake up call. At any time their easygoing NEET life could disappear and their parents weren’t going to take care of them forever. With their parents’ mortality staring them in the face they reluctantly realized they had to do what they could to pull their weight and take care of their parents as they’d been taking care of them.

All six of them decided to get serious about employment and put all their efforts towards job searching together. Eventually they all found work that, while maybe not glamorous, made them happy. They continued living at home and were overall a lot happier than the last time they tried to get serious about work, all of them finally prepared for the role and a lot healthier. This goes for Choromatsu as well, who in a personal conversation with Osomatsu seemed proud of him for finally stepping up and a lot more playful.

And then everyone died.

But we’re going to take him from before that happened so it doesn’t matter.

Chosen path: Druid
5 Abilities: wild shape, create bonfire, druidcraft, speak with plants, animal friendship
Why this path?: Because he's the green one-- okay but no really the fact that Choromatsu's theme colour is green gets him associated with nature a lot already, both in an official and fan capacity. Most fantasy and D&D inspired official art for the sextuplets (which... there is a lot of... because mobile games I guess) depicts him as some kind of magic user, usually a cleric or a wizard, and druid to me feels like the best way to keep in line with that sort of idea while also doing something different with it.
.......also if I can be completely honest but my favorite gag with Choromatsu ever involves spontaneous combustion and I want to recreate that with create bonfire.
